‎ACG Onyeka Bows Out of Tin Can Command Following ₦1.6tn Revenue Milestone
‎Kathy Kyari
‎The immediate past Customs Area Controller of the Nigeria Customs Service Tin Can Island Port Command, Assistant Comptroller-General Frank Onyeka, has bowed out of office after leading the Command to a record revenue collection of ₦1.609 trillion in 2025, surpassing its annual target of ₦1.524 trillion.
‎Onyeka formally handed over the leadership of the Command to Comptroller Joe Anani on Friday, 22 May 2026, following his elevation to the rank of Assistant Comptroller-General of Customs.
‎Speaking during the handover ceremony, Onyeka described his stewardship at the Command as one of the most fulfilling periods of his career in the Customs Service.
‎“This moment is both emotional and historic for me. Serving as the Customs Area Controller of this great Command has been one of the greatest honours of my career in the Nigeria Customs Service,” he said.
‎Highlighting the Command’s performance under his leadership, Onyeka disclosed that the Command generated a total revenue of ₦1,609,874,328,972.55 for the 2025 fiscal year, exceeding its assigned target of ₦1,524,669,999,478.52.
‎He added that the Command also realised ₦401,011,998,443.71 in revenue during the first quarter of the 2026 fiscal year.
‎According to him, the achievement resulted from “discipline, intelligence-driven operations, improved compliance strategies, robust stakeholder engagement, and the deployment of modern trade facilitation mechanisms aimed at balancing enforcement with legitimate trade.”
‎Beyond revenue generation, Onyeka said the Command recorded major anti-smuggling breakthroughs, including the interception of illicit drugs and prohibited items with an estimated street value exceeding ₦35 billion.
‎“These seizures underscore our collective resolve to protect the nation from criminal networks and to safeguard the health, security, and future of our society,” he stated.
‎He noted that the Command also strengthened collaboration with freight forwarders, terminal operators, shipping companies, importers, exporters and other stakeholders to improve operational efficiency and compliance at the port.
‎The newly promoted Assistant Comptroller-General further said his administration prioritised capacity building through workshops, training sessions and professional development programmes for officers and men of the Command.
‎“I firmly believe that the strength of any institution lies in the quality and preparedness of its personnel, and I am proud of the strides we made in this regard,” he said.
‎Onyeka also acknowledged the support extended to the Customs Officers' Wives Association (COWA), whose humanitarian programmes, he said, positively impacted officers’ families and surrounding communities.
‎He expressed appreciation to the Comptroller-General of Customs and Chairman of the World Customs Organization Council, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, for his support and transformational leadership.
‎Onyeka urged officers, stakeholders and members of the trading community to support the new CAC to sustain the Command’s achievements.
‎“Continuity, unity, and collective support are essential for sustaining and surpassing the achievements already recorded by this Command,” he said.
