Societal/Cultural Pressure Responsible for all kinds of Abuse in Children - Revd. Canon Okoye

Societal/Cultural Pressure Responsible for all kinds of Abuse in Children - Revd. Canon Okoye

By Kathy Kyari
Parents should teach their children the virtue of contentment, according to Group Captain/Revd Canon OG Okoye, the chaplain of the Nigerian Airforce Protestant Church in Ikeja.

On Friday, February 3, 2023, Rev. Okoye gave a speech at a seminar organized in conjunction with the Children's Department of the Church and the Pastor Bimbo Odukoya Foundation.

He continued by saying that due to all kinds of pressure, children are subject to all forms of abuse. He asked Parents and Guardians to be watchful and instill virtues that will guide them in the future while referencing Proverbs 26: "Train up your child in the way he should go and when he grows up he won't depart from it."

Parents and Teachers from the Children's Department discussed the problems and solutions that are common in today's culture during the two-day seminar, which had as its focus "Sexual and Substance Abuse Awareness."

In his vote of thanks, the Children's Department Superintendent, Bro. Victor Dimka, applauded the Church Chaplain for always aiming for the best for the advancement of the Children's department through continual teacher capacity building.

He continued by saying that the program was set up to raise awareness and provide parents and teachers with the knowledge they need to combat this threat that is stealing the lives of children.

Dimka expressed his appreciation for the Bimbo Odukoya Foundation's work with women and children and said that the department would put all that it has gained into action.

Bimbo Odukoya Foundation (PBOF) is a non-profit, non-governmental, independent, faith-based organization in Nigeria that offers women and young people, especially young girls in underserved communities around Nigeria, information, resources, assistance, and training.

It is a legacy foundation set up in honor of Bimbo Odukoya, a champion for women's and girls' rights and recipient of the National Merit Award, who tragically perished in a plane disaster in 2005. The work she began in Muslim and Christian communities has been carried out by the Foundation since its establishment in 2007.
