The Federal Operations Unit (FOU) Zone A of the Nigeria Customs Service, Ikeja-Lagos, has decorated 186 newly promoted officers in a colourful ceremony where Comptroller Mohammed Shuaibu charged them to lead with integrity, humility, and accountability.
Addressing officers, guests, and stakeholders, Shuaibu congratulated the beneficiaries, describing the day as “a significant moment in the history of the unit.”
“The promotions being celebrated here today are not just titles conferred; they are a reflection of your commitment to excellence, your patriotism, and your steadfast service to the Nigeria Customs Service and to our great nation,” he said.
The Comptroller lauded the officers for diligence, courage, and professionalism, stressing that their new ranks were earned.
"Your elevation is not by chance; it is a reward for hard work,” he stated, reminding them that “with every promotion comes greater responsibility.”
He urged the officers to wear their new ranks with humility, serve as role models, and embody true leadership.
“Wear your new rank with humility, lead by example, and serve as mentors and role models to your colleagues,” he charged, adding that “true leadership is not about titles or positions; it is about service, empathy, and dedication to a cause greater than oneself.”
For those yet to be promoted, Shuaibu gave words of encouragement.
"Promotion is not a race; it is a journey. Continue to serve with commitment and integrity. Be patient and persistent. Your time will come,” he assured, emphasizing that “promotion ultimately comes from God, and your efforts do not go unnoticed.”
Providing context, Shuaibu recalled that the 63rd Regular Meeting of the Nigeria Customs Service Board, chaired by the Honourable Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mr. Wale Edun, approved the promotion of 3,312 senior officers. Similarly, the Service’s 6th Management Meeting held on Friday, 29th August 2025 elevated another 202 junior officers.
The Controller reminded the officers that their journey was far from over.
“Promotion is not the end of the road; it is a checkpoint on the long path of service. There are greater heights to attain, new challenges to confront, and more contributions to be made toward the development of our Service and the progress of our country,” he said.
“Once again, I congratulate all the newly promoted officers. May you continue to bring honour to yourselves, to this unit, and to the Nigeria Customs Service at large.”
