Tin Can Island Customs Sets ₦159bn Record as 187 Officers Earn Promotions

The Tin Can Island Port Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has recorded its highest monthly revenue collection yet, raking in ₦159 billion in August 2025.

The feat coincided with a celebration within the command, as 187 officers were decorated with their new ranks on Wednesday. Among those promoted were Deputy Comptroller Olisa Alumona and the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Oscar Ivara.

Speaking at the colourful ceremony, Comptroller Frank Onyeka attributed the revenue breakthrough to the successful deployment of the indigenous B’Odogwu trade platform, which he said has “significantly improved trade facilitation and enhanced revenue performance.”

He praised the commitment of his officers, men of the command, and stakeholders for contributing to the achievement. He also commended the Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adeniyi, for recognising the efforts of Tin Can officers.

Congratulating the newly promoted officers, Onyeka disclosed that 187 of them scaled through in the current exercise, representing “about 87 per cent of all those who took the examination from the command.”

The Comptroller expressed delight at the outcome, noting that it was encouraging to see most of his officers succeed. He urged those yet to be promoted to remain steadfast, assuring them that “their turn will come.”

Reaffirming the command’s commitment to trade facilitation, revenue protection, and support for port stakeholders, Onyeka said the command was poised to sustain its performance.

Assisting him in decorating the newly promoted officers were Comptroller Joseph Anani of Ports Terminal Multi-Services Limited (PTML) Command, Comptroller Istifanus Musa, and family members of some of the celebrants.
