Rivers State Government Partners with Senendib Capital Limited to Protect Mangrove Forest Ecosystems and Establish Blue Carbon Credits Partnership
Rivers State Government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Senendib Capital Limited to protect and preserve mangrove forest ecosystems and establish a Blue Carbon Credits Partnership.
The MoU aims to integrate mangrove restoration, seagrass conservation, and sustainable agriculture, as well as tree planting and biochar production, to bring about transformative environmental and socio-economic gains.
The project, part of the larger Delta AZURE program, will be the world's largest blue carbon credit project, preventing deforestation of 170,000 hectares of forest through afforestation, reforestation, revegetation, and replantation. Carbon credits generated will be used to benefit local communities and support alternative income sources.
The partnership is expected to create jobs, diversify revenue streams, and bring economic benefits to the State. Senendib Capital Limited has committed to working in synergy with local communities and has commended the Rivers State Government for their trust.
Key aspects of the project include:
- Mangrove restoration and conservation
- Seagrass conservation
- Sustainable agriculture
- Tree planting and biochar production
- Blue Carbon Credits Partnership
- Job creation and community benefits
- Diversification of revenue streams
The signing of the MoU marks a significant step towards protecting the mangrove forest ecosystems and promoting sustainable development in Rivers State.
