Cross River State Launches Ambitious 12,000-Hectare Agribusiness Project to Revolutionize Agriculture and Create Wealth
In a landmark move, Cross River State Governor, Senator Bassey Otu, has flagged off a massive 12,000-hectare land development project for arable crops cultivation, in partnership with NAMEL (Nigerian Agricultural Mechanization and Equipment Leasing Company). The project aims to empower out-growers to cultivate rice, maize, cassava, wheat, coffee, and cowpea, with an investment of six billion naira from the state government.

With the potential to create employment opportunities for over 4,000 people and generate unprecedented wealth for the state, Governor Otu emphasized that agriculture is the fulcrum of the state's economy. He assured the community that the project is designed to benefit all parties involved, with technical and extension officials available to provide guidance on best practices.

This project is part of the administration's Project Grow initiative, aimed at empowering 100,000 agribusinesses MSMEs and Small-holder farmers across the state. Commissioner for Agriculture and Irrigation Development, Hon. Johnson Ebokpo, praised the Governor's vision, noting that the project will unlock the state's agrarian rural economies and make Cross River a national reference point for food security and wealth creation.

The project has received widespread support from financial institutions, agro-industry leaders, research institutions, and other stakeholders, who commended the Governor for prioritizing agriculture as the cornerstone of the state's economic development. With its potential to transform the state's economy and improve the lives of its citizens, this project is a significant step towards a brighter future for Cross River State.
