‎Adeniyi Highlights Global Collaboration as Customs Hosts Diplomatic Community, Security Chiefs

‎The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening international cooperation and advancing Nigeria’s trade diplomacy through deeper engagement with foreign missions and strategic partners.
‎This was the focus of a high-level diplomatic reception hosted by the Service on Tuesday, June 3, 2026, at the  Nigeria Customs Service Headquarters in Maitama, Abuja.
‎Speaking at the reception, the Comptroller-General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi, expressed appreciation to members of the diplomatic community for their continued support in strengthening bilateral relations and promoting global trade cooperation with Nigeria.
‎“We recognize and appreciate your contributions to strengthening diplomatic and trade relations. The Service remains committed to providing the support and services required for diplomatic missions to operate effectively in Nigeria,” he said.
‎He noted that the Service has continued to expand its international engagement through structured collaboration frameworks with more than twenty customs administrations across the world.
According to him, the partnerships are focused on knowledge exchange, capacity development and operational cooperation aimed at enhancing trade facilitation and border management.
‎Adeniyi stressed that sustained collaboration among customs administrations, diplomatic missions and security agencies remains essential to achieving efficient border security, improved revenue generation and greater economic competitiveness amid the complexities of global trade.
‎The CGC further emphasised that modern customs administration now functions within an increasingly interconnected global environment, making continuous engagement, trust-building and shared responsibility indispensable in addressing emerging challenges in trade, security and compliance management.
‎According to him, platforms such as the diplomatic reception offer valuable opportunities for dialogue, relationship building and the exploration of new areas of cooperation that can further strengthen Nigeria’s trade and diplomatic architecture.
‎The event brought together ambassadors, high commissioners, heads of missions and senior government officials, including the Chief of the Air Staff, the Inspector-General of Police, members of the Customs Management team and other top officials from key security and government institutions.
‎The reception concluded with networking sessions and goodwill messages from participants, who commended the Nigeria Customs Service for its sustained efforts in fostering stronger institutional partnerships and creating an enabling environment for international collaboration.
