Aroyewun Drops Reps Bid, Joins Lagos East Senate Race Under ADC
Maritime leader Prince Taofeek Adeyinka Aroyewun has declared his intention to contest the Lagos East Senatorial seat under the African Democratic Congress (ADC), stepping up from his earlier bid for the House of Representatives.
Aroyewun, popularly known as PTA, announced the move on Monday after what he described as “extensive consultations, careful reflection, and recent developments” within his party.
“Earlier, I publicly declared my intention to contest for the House of Representatives to represent Ikorodu Federal Constituency. However, after thorough consideration and a keen assessment of the current political landscape, I have resolved to aim higher,” he said.
The National President of the Council of Maritime Transport Unions and Associations (COMTUA) said the decision was driven by a desire to deliver “meaningful representation, transformative leadership, and effective legislation” to the entire Lagos East Senatorial District.
“I believe that my experience, network, and vision for our region align perfectly with the demands of the Senate,” Aroyewun added.
A career teacher and Economics graduate, Aroyewun is a member of royal families in Egbin, Ikorodu, and Ijora. He has business interests in real estate, haulage, and logistics. As COMTUA president, he leads the umbrella body for maritime transport owners and operators in Nigeria, a role he says has given him deep insight into economic policy and regulation.
He pledged to run a campaign built on integrity and service, promising to champion job creation, infrastructure development, improved security, and empowerment for youth and women under the ADC platform.
“I urge my family, friends, and all supporters who stood with me for the House of Representatives to follow me on this new journey to the Senate. Your support remains my greatest strength,” he said.
Aroyewun formally informed his family, associates, supporters, and the public of the update, signing off as ADC Aspirant, Lagos East Senatorial District.
