Customs Oyo/Osun Seizes ₦2.5bn Smuggled Goods, Generates ₦14.7bn Revenue
The Oyo/Osun Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service has announced major operational successes in its fight against smuggling and revenue leakages.

Speaking at the Command’s headquarters in Ibadan, Acting Customs Area Controller, Deputy Comptroller WM Adewole, revealed that intensified surveillance and enforcement yielded significant seizures of prohibited goods. Items intercepted include 3,300 packs and 2,140 sachets of Tramadol, and 1,144 wraps of Cannabis Sativa along with other illicit substances, 1,603 bags of foreign parboiled rice.

Others are six used vehicles of various brands, 2,270 packs of foreign textile materials, 20 bags of sugar, and 17,300 litres of Premium Motor Spirit (692 kegs).

The total Duty Paid Value (DPV) of the seized items stands at ₦2.53 billion.

On revenue generation, Adewole disclosed that the Command collected ₦14.7 billion within the review period, marking a 46.22% increase compared to ₦10.1 billion recorded in the same period last year. He attributed this growth to enhanced compliance checks, intelligence-driven operations, and stakeholder collaboration.

Adewole issued a stern warning to smugglers and economic saboteurs, stressing that the Command remains resolute in enforcing fiscal policies and protecting Nigeria’s economy. He also appealed to the public for timely information to aid operations, noting that compliance with import and export regulations is the best way to avoid sanctions.

The Acting Controller expressed gratitude to Comptroller-General of Customs Bashir Adewale Adeniyi and his management team for their support, as well as traditional rulers and stakeholders across Oyo and Osun States for their cooperation in discouraging smuggling.

Finally, he commended the press for their role in disseminating accurate information, which he said has greatly enhanced public awareness and compliance.
