Onne Customs Command Deepens Inter-agency Collaboration For Port Security And Compliance

The Customs Area Controller (CAC) of the Port Harcourt II Area Command, Comptroller Aliyu M. Alkali, has intensified inter-agency collaboration at the Onne Sea Port through a series of strategic visits to key stakeholders. The initiative is aimed at strengthening intelligence sharing, fostering synergy among government agencies, and enhancing compliance with existing trade and security regulations.

According to a statement issued by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, CSC Theophilus Duniya, the Comptroller visited the Commander of Narcotics, National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Port Harcourt Ports Command, Omerio Mathias Odo; the Director of State Security, Port Harcourt Ports Command; and the Commandant of the Nigerian Navy Basic Training School, Onne, Rear Admiral Victor D. Choji.

During the visits, Comptroller Alkali emphasized the importance of teamwork and collaboration in achieving national objectives. He reaffirmed his commitment to aligning with the Comptroller-General of Customs’ policy thrust of consolidation, collaboration, and innovation.

“I believe that active engagement with stakeholders will build strong relationships and enhance compliance with extant regulations. I pledge to sustain and improve on the existing cordial relationships, as I request for robust synergy from you,” he stated.

The stakeholders, in response, pledged their continued cooperation with the Command. The NDLEA Commander, Omerio Mathias Odo, assured that his agency would work closely with Customs to minimize the inflow of illicit drugs through the port.

Similarly, the Director of State Security, Port Harcourt Ports Command, pledged to provide timely and useful intelligence to support Customs operations. Rear Admiral Victor D. Choji also reaffirmed the Navy’s commitment to securing the maritime domain and supporting Customs within the legal framework to ensure safe and efficient port activities.

The ongoing visits underscore Comptroller Alkali’s proactive approach to stakeholder engagement, geared toward strengthening port security, boosting revenue collection, and promoting regulatory compliance at the Onne Sea Port.
