Trump Appoints Lou Sola as New Federal Maritime Commission Chairman
In a significant development, President Donald J. Trump has designated Commissioner Louis E. "Lou" Sola as the new Chairman of the Federal Maritime Commission (FMC), effective January 20, 2025.

As the Commission's chief executive and administrative officer, Chairman Sola brings a diverse background to the role. His extensive experience includes a 12-year military career in Army counterintelligence, successful ventures in consulting and yacht sales, and serving on the Florida Board of Pilot Commissioners .
Chairman Sola emphasized the Commission's contributions to American businesses, access to foreign markets, and economic growth. "We will continue that important work while looking for more instances where applying the authorities of the Commission helps U.S. companies and consumers," he stated .

Sola acknowledged his predecessor's accomplishments, particularly in addressing supply chain congestion issues. "I appreciate all the good work my colleague Daniel Maffei accomplished during his tenure as Chairman," he remarked ¹.

Sola's history with the FMC dates back to November 2018, when President Trump first nominated him to serve as Commissioner. He was confirmed by the Senate in January 2019 and has since played a crucial role in shaping the Commission's policies .
