The Zonal Coordinator of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) Zone ‘A’, ACG Charles Orbih, has called on Customs officers in the zone to fully align their actions with the 2025 World Customs Organisation (WCO) theme: "Customs Delivering on its Commitment to Efficiency, Security, and Prosperity."
Orbih was speaking during a ceremony held at the Tincan Island Port (TCIP) to mark International Customs Day on Monday.
ACG Orbih who emphasized the relevance of the WCO theme to the vision of the Comptroller-General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi MFR, described the CGC’s policy thrust—Collaboration, Consolidation, and Innovation—as a practical roadmap to achieving the ideals of the WCO theme.
“The Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi MFR, policy thrust on Collaboration, Consolidation, and Innovation can be seen in the 2025 WCO theme for International Customs Day,” ACG Orbih remarked.
Highlighting the achievements of the TCIP Customs Command, Orbih announced that as of 10 a.m. on January 27, 2025, the command had already generated a remarkable ₦86 billion in revenue, surpassing the ₦83 billion collected in January 2024. He attributed this success to the drive for innovation, which he said enhances efficiency, strengthens security, and fosters prosperity.
“Starting from TCIP, Customs have to begin to do things the right way to improve efficiency, national security, and revenue generation, which leads to prosperity,” he stated.
ACG Orbih also used the occasion to commend outstanding Customs officers and stakeholders for their contributions to advancing the Service’s mission. “Today, we recognize the extraordinary contributions of our outstanding officers and stakeholders who have significantly advanced our Service’s mission. People whose inventiveness have enhanced revenue collection, facilitated trade, and protected our national economic interests,” he said.
He urged officers to embrace the WCO theme throughout 2025, integrating it into their daily interactions, decisions, and processes. “Our collective actions will determine Nigeria’s economic competitiveness globally and national security,” he added.
Meanwhile, the Area Controller of TCIP Customs, Comptroller Frank Onyeka, unveiled the command’s action plan for the year, which revolves around three core pillars: Capacity Building, Enhanced Collaboration, and Accountability and Integrity.
“We are investing in the continuous training and professional development of our officers to equip them with the skills needed for 21st-century Customs operations,” Comptroller Onyeka said.
He also stressed the importance of partnerships, highlighting efforts to deepen collaborations with the private sector, other government agencies, and international organizations to create a unified approach to trade and border management.
“We remain steadfast in our commitment to uphold the highest standards of transparency and accountability, recognizing that integrity is the foundation for public trust,” Onyeka added.
The Area Controller reminded officers of the far-reaching implications of their work, emphasizing the need to prioritize efficiency, security, and prosperity in their duties. “By delivering on commitments to efficiency, security, and prosperity, we are not only fulfilling our mandate but also contributing to a brighter future for the nation and the global economy,” he said.
The ceremony concluded with a renewed call for professionalism and dedication, as officers were reminded of their pivotal role in shaping Nigeria’s economic and security landscape.
