Custom TCIP Command Intercepts Over ₦682 Million Worth of Illicit Drugs

Three containers carrying Illicit dangerous substances worth over ₦682 million were confiscated by the Tin Can Island Port Area Command, demonstrating its sustained focus on protecting the country via coordinated and diligent actions against criminal activities.
The Area Controller, Comptroller Dera Nnadi, provided details of the successful narcotics interception and handover to the NDLEA during a press briefing at the Command on Wednesday.
According to Nnadi, actionable intelligence and interagency cooperation with the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) enabled the seizure.
It was discovered that the confiscated containers, which came from a source nation, included 684 packages of cannabis indica totalling 341.025 kg. The seizures' contents were provided by Comptroller Nnadi as follows:
Container Number MSMU 518030/2 (1x40ft): A joint 100% physical examination conducted on August 2, 2024, revealed 77 packets of Cannabis Indica weighing 38.5 kg. The container was declared to contain three used vehicles.
Container Number MSMU 602957/0 (1x40ft): Examined on August 8, 2024, this container held 532 packets of Cannabis Indica weighing 265.025 kg. No declaration had been entered for this consignment.
Container Number FSCU 927461/3 (1x40ft):
Also examined on August 8, 2024, this container contained 75 packets of Cannabis Indica weighing 37.5 kg.
Similar to the second container, no declaration had been entered.
In order to combat the threat of illegal drug importation, Nnadi underlined the significance of interagency cooperation.
“The Command and indeed the Service will deploy all necessary resources and strategies at our disposal and in collaboration with other security and regulatory agencies to check the menace of illegal importation of illicit and dangerous substances,” he stated.
Further investigations into the seizures are being carried out by the NDLEA, and information on arrests and prosecutions is anticipated shortly. The NCS and NDLEA's dedication to protecting Nigerian society from the perils of illegal narcotics is demonstrated by this operation.
