LTT Opens Sea-Time Opportunities to Nigerian Cadets, Backs Women Seafarers

The General Manager of LTT Coastal and Marine Services Limited, Mr Liav Zilberman, has reaffirmed the company’s commitment to providing Nigerian cadets from public and private maritime institutions with capacity-building opportunities and sea-time experience, while promoting the advancement of women in seafaring.
Zilberman made this known on Saturday in Lagos, where he received the Maritime Innovation, Sustainability and People Development Leadership Award at the 8th Global Leadership Summit and Awards organised by Global Searchlight Communications Media.
The summit, held under the theme, “Transformative Leadership for Sustainable Growth: Driving Innovation, Institutional Excellence and National Development,” moved beyond the celebration of personalities and achievements to create a platform for discussions on the kind of leadership required to drive sustainable growth in Nigeria.
Speaking at the event, the LTT General Manager said the company was open to training cadets from all maritime institutions, stressing that passion, commitment and dedication remained key considerations in selecting beneficiaries for internship and training opportunities.
He said LTT had trained marine engineers from public and private maritime institutions across Nigeria, with several female cadets also benefiting from the company’s training programmes and gaining the skills needed to compete favourably with their counterparts globally.
“We always fill the gap whenever there is an available space for cadets to gain sea-time experience. We are ready to work with everybody, provided they are committed and passionate about the job,” Zilberman said.
He noted that Nigeria’s maritime sector offered numerous opportunities for young professionals, adding that LTT remained committed to promoting the participation of women in seafaring.
“We are the first to promote women marine engineers in Africa. Today, we have female Able-Bodied Seafarers, Chief Engineers and Second Engineers, and we are happy with their progress,” he stated.
Also speaking, the Vice President of Women in Maritime Africa, Anglophone, Mr Rollens Macfoy, commended the management of LTT Coastal and Marine Services Limited for its sustained commitment to empowering women in the maritime industry.
Macfoy noted that LTT had provided a platform for female seafarers to develop and thrive for more than a decade, describing the women trained by the company as world-class mariners.
She urged the management of LTT to sustain its support for indigenous female mariners, irrespective of their tribe, religion, culture or ethnicity.
In her welcome address, the Publisher of Searchlight News and Convener of the summit, Olori Lola Adesokan, said innovation and strong institutions must work together if Nigeria was to achieve meaningful and sustainable development.
She stressed that innovation without effective institutions could not produce lasting results.
Adesokan challenged leaders in government, business, maritime, technology, media and other sectors to embrace new ideas while building institutions founded on accountability, professionalism, fairness and service.
According to her, leadership should no longer be measured merely by titles or positions, but by the lives touched, opportunities created, institutions strengthened and positive change left behind.
She explained that the Global Leadership Summit and Awards was created to recognise individuals and institutions whose contributions were making meaningful impact in society.
Adesokan said the annual platform was not simply about handing out plaques, but about telling stories of sacrifice, perseverance, excellence and service, while inspiring others to do more.
The Chairman of the occasion, Barrister Michael Ovien Imonitie, Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer, Mimov Global Ventures Limited, commended Searchlight News for sustaining the summit and choosing what he described as a timely and powerful theme.
Imonitie noted that innovation was rapidly transforming virtually every industry and had become a critical factor in modern business and professional life.
He congratulated the award recipients, describing their recognition as well deserved, and urged them not to rest on the honour but to continue building on their achievements and contributing positively to their various sectors.
