Bayelsa State Government Prioritizes Affordable Housing and Education
The Bayelsa State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to addressing the accommodation needs of its citizens, with a focus on low-cost housing schemes for civil servants and other residents.

 Governor Douye Diri, represented by Deputy Governor Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, made this promise at the Bayelsa Elders Council Quarterly general meeting held at the Niger Delta Wetland Centre in Yenagoa.

The government plans to directly engage its housing and property development authority to build affordable houses, completing inherited projects and initiating new ones .

This approach aims to provide low-cost housing options for civil servants and deserving elders.

The Bayelsa State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to addressing the accommodation needs of its citizens, with a focus on low-cost housing schemes for civil servants and other residents. Governor Douye Diri, represented by Deputy Governor Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, made this promise at the Bayelsa Elders Council Quarterly general meeting held at the Niger Delta Wetland Centre in Yenagoa.

In addition to housing, the administration has made significant strides in education. Five standard technical colleges have been constructed in various local government areas, with contracts for three more colleges to be awarded soon. The government has also recruited 1,500 teachers for public schools, including:


400 teachers for technical colleges,
230 teachers for primary schools,
930 teachers for secondary school's 


These appointments follow a comprehensive needs assessment in the education sector, emphasizing science subjects, English, and Mathematics.

Governor Diri urged teachers to demonstrate true commitment to their profession and encouraged traditional rulers and community leaders to hold teachers accountable. 

Rear Admiral Gboribiogha John Jonah, Chairman of the Bayelsa Elders Council, stressed the importance of promoting research and innovative thinking in critical sectors for sustainable development.
