Empowering African Voices: Maritime Writes Project 2024 Creative Writing Bootcamp Set to Inspire Blue Economy Literature
In a bid to foster the development of African literature focused on the blue economy, the Maritime Writes Project (MWP) has selected over 50 participants for its 2024 Creative Writing bootcamp.

Themed "Protecting Heritages in the Blue Economy," the event aims to promote maritime awareness and career opportunities among children, youths, and women.

According to Ezinne Azunna, Project Coordinatorr, the bootcamp will take place on August 30-31, 2024, at the Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) Conference Centre, Ikeja, Lagos. Azunna emphasized the significance of exposing Africans to fiction with marine and maritime themes, citing the vast potential of the blue economy, estimated at $300 billion with over 49 million jobs.

The MWP Creative Writing bootcamp offers a unique opportunity for participants to enhance their literary skills, interact with industry mentors, and potentially become published authors. The top 10 projects will be published, providing a platform for African voices to shine.

This year's edition features a hybrid format, with physical participation in Lagos and online engagement from Osun, Delta, Calabar, Bonny, and Abuja. Renowned facilitators include Prof Adegbite Tobalase, Dr Talwo Nolas-Alausa, Comrade (Dr.) Adewale Adeyanju, Vivek Menon, and Mr. Akanbi Bamikole Williams, among others.

The Maritime Writes Project, a not-for-profit organization, has been hosting Creative Writing workshops annually since 2021, guiding participants to author fiction centered on the blue economy. With a growing community of writers and industry experts, MWP is poised to make a significant impact on African literature and the blue economy.

By empowering African voices, the Maritime Writes Project 2024 Creative Writing bootcamp is set to inspire a new generation of writers, promoting maritime awareness and sustainable practices in the blue economy.
