The new management of Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) has been commended for redeploying port managers with the aim of enhancing efficiency.
Giving the commendation in a letter to the Managing Director of the Authority, the Council of Maritime Transport Unions and Associations (COMTUA) expressed concerns about deploying individuals to unfamiliar ports, overlooking experienced personnel.
The letter signed by COMTUA's National President, Adeyinka Aroyewun, acknowledged NPA's efforts to improve port operationn, emphasizing the importance of merit-based deployment. According to the letter, those with experience and familiarity with a particular port should manage it.
COMTUA restated that NPA should prioritize merit in deployment decisions, ensuring competent individuals with knowledge of each port's peculiarities are appointed.
This, the letter noted, would improve efficiency and achieve NPA's objectives.
The letter concluded with a call to action, urging the NPA to consider COMTUA's concerns and adopt merit-based deployment to optimize port management.
