ANLCA Lauds Apapa CAC for Reducing Alert Units to 2, Harmonizing Gate Control
The Customs Area Controller, Apapa Port Command of Nigeria Customs Service, Comptroller Babatunde O. Olomu PhD, has been commended for his efforts at reducing the departments of Customs on alert to just two: CPC and Valuation. The reduction has significantly reduced delays and bottlenecks, fostering a more predictable and efficient clearing environment.
The controller was commended when he paid a visit to the national secretariat of the Association of Nigerian Licensed Customs Agents (ANLCA) in Amuwo-Odofin, Lagos on Tuesday. Giving the commendation in his welcome remarks, the Executive Chairman, Apapa chapter, ANLCA, Hon. Emeka Chukwumalu, further lauded Comptroller Olomu for his efforts in harmonizing the gate control to further streamline the movement of goods,
making daily operations much smoother.
Chukwumalu also commended the visionary initiative of the controller in organizing the training of ANLCA members on the Truck Transit Park. The Chairman noted that the comprehensive training has been instrumental in qualifying the association's members to obtain the crucial ETO wallet, a development that has streamlined operations and significantly improved efficiency.
"Furthermore, this particular training has yielded remarkable financial benefits for our members. We are incredibly grateful for the drastic reduction in local transportation costs from an exorbitant N1, 200,000.00 to a more manageable N350, 000.00. This reduction has directly impacted our members' operational costs and profitability. We also deeply appreciate your commitment to making available the necessary facilities and logistics that ensured the success of this
vital training program.
Beyond training, your proactive approach has also brought about much-needed reforms within customs operations," Chukwumalu lauded.
He expressed his profound gratitude for the controller's tenure which has been marked by significant positive changes, and impactful contributions to the customs clearing process and the welfare of ANLCA members.
However, beyond eulogizing the
Comptroller's good works, he requested his kind consideration and intervention in certain areas to further enhance clearing operations.
Firstly, the Chairman mentioned that the fast track process, while intended to expedite clearances, has become cumbersome. He sought the Controller's urgent intervention to streamline its operation to truly achieve its objective of faster clearance for compliant declarations.
Finally, the Chairman said he would be immensely grateful if the Controller could consider extending the Customs Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives to the association, saying that such a gesture would undoubtedly strengthen the bond between the Service and the association, fostering a
more collaborative and supportive environment for all stakeholders.
Responding, Comptroller played glowing tribute to ANLCA, saying that it is the mother and grandmother of all licenced agents and a leading voice on maritime issues. He remarked that the history of maritime association would be incomplete without ANLCA.
Acknowledging the support received from the association, the Controller expressed the command's delight to be associated with ANLCA. He appreciated the support and input of the association into the collection of N2.33578 trillion in the first half of
2025. "There is no doubt that we partners. We need each other to succeed," Olomu stated.
He promised to dispassionately look into the issues raised by the Chairman with a view to take action on them with dispatch.
