International Maritime Seminar for Judges Set to Hold in Abuja
The Nigerian Shippers' Council (NSC), in collaboration with the National Judicial Institute (NJI), is set to host the 17th edition of the International Maritime Seminar for Judges in Abuja. The event, scheduled to take place from July 9th to 11th, 2024, at the Abuja Continental Hotel, aims to update participants' knowledge on contemporary issues and developments in International Maritime Law and Admiralty Practice.
Under the chairmanship of Senator George Akume, Secretary to the Government of the Federation, the seminar will feature eminent jurists, scholars, and maritime experts delivering papers on pressing issues in the maritime industry. Topics include legal issues in Nigerian seaports trade facilitation, shipping in the age of innovation and climate change, ADR in maritime dispute resolution, and admiralty jurisdiction procedure rules.
The event will be attended by distinguished dignitaries, including the Executive Governor of Nasarawa State, Engr. Abdullahi A. Sule; the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Honourable Justice Olukayode Ariwoola; the Honourable Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, H.E Adegboyega Oyetola; and the Chief Justices of The Gambia, Ghana, Kenya, Liberia, and Sierra Leone. Other participants include Justices of the Supreme Court, Court of Appeal, and Federal and State High Courts, legal advisers, in-house counsel, legal and maritime practitioners, and industry stakeholders.
This seminar provides a platform for stakeholders to engage with experts and address complex issues in the maritime industry, promoting knowledge sharing and collaboration.
