Women's Participation Crucial for Nigeria's Blue Economy Growth, Says NCS
The Nigerian Chamber of Shipping (NCS) has emphasized that women's active participation, especially in leadership roles, is crucial for realizing the country's blue economy potential. This was stated by the President of NCS, Mr. Aminu Umar, at a summit in Lagos, themed "Safe Horizons: Women Shaping the Future of Maritime Safety."

Umar, represented by Mrs. Jean Chiazor Anishere (SAN), highlighted the maritime sector's importance in global trade and economic growth, stressing that women's inclusion is vital for harnessing the industry's benefits.

The President of WISTA International, Mrs. Elpiniki Petraki, emphasized the need for increased women's participation across the maritime sector, citing the global gender imbalance challenge. She encouraged Nigerian women in maritime to participate in the ongoing IMO/WISTA maritime survey, which aims to promote diversity and women's inclusion.

Maritime Psychotherapist Mrs. Pam Kem stressed the importance of psychological safety in the maritime industry, particularly for female seafarers facing various challenges.

The Director General of NCS, Mrs. Vivian Chimezie-Azubuike, noted that the program was the 3rd edition organized by NCS to commemorate the 2024 International Day for Women in Maritime.
