COWA Takes the Lead in Promoting Health and Wellness: Distributes Over 200 Blood Pressure Monitors to Customs Officers and Families in Commemoration of World Hypertension Day
Abuja, May 16, 2024 - In a bid to prioritize the health and well-being of officers and families of the Nigeria Customs Service, the Customs Officers' Wives Association (COWA) distributed over 200 upper arm blood pressure monitors at the Nigeria Customs Service Headquarters. The event, held in commemoration of World Hypertension Day, aimed to raise awareness about the importance of monitoring blood pressure and controlling hypertension.
COWA National President, Mrs. Kikelomo Adeniyi, emphasized the significance of understanding hypertension, a silent killer that contributes to various diseases. She encouraged officers' wives to take charge of their families' health, stressing the need for regular monitoring and early detection. "Hypertension is a preventable and manageable condition, and we must take proactive steps to combat it," she said. "As wives of customs officers, we have a critical role to play in promoting health and wellness within our families and the wider customs community."
Representing the Comptroller-General of Customs, Deputy Comptroller-General Festus Okun commended COWA's initiative, describing it as humanitarian. He reaffirmed the CGC's support for COWA's efforts to promote officers' welfare and urged officers and their families to take preventive measures against hypertension. "The Nigeria Customs Service values the well-being of its personnel and their families, and we appreciate COWA's efforts in promoting health and wellness," he said.
The event, attended by top customs officers, their families, and COWA executives, reinforced the collective effort to combat hypertension and promote a healthy society. By distributing BP monitors, COWA demonstrated its commitment to the well-being of customs officers and their families. World Hypertension Day, themed "Measure Your Blood Pressure Accurately, Control It and Live Longer," aimed to raise awareness about the importance of monitoring blood pressure and controlling hypertension. COWA's initiative aligns with this goal, promoting health and wellness among the customs community.
The distribution of BP monitors is part of COWA's ongoing efforts to prioritize the health and well-being of customs officers and their families. The association has been actively engaged in various health-related initiatives, including health screenings, awareness campaigns, and support for officers' families. By taking the lead in promoting health and wellness, COWA sets an excellent example for other organizations to follow.
Through this initiative, COWA aims to encourage officers and their families to take control of their health and prioritize wellness. By working together, we can create a healthier and happier customs community.
