....Four people saved.

By Kathy Kyari
Just two days after nine people lost their lives in an accident involving a truck carrying containers and a minibus in Ojuelegba, Lagos, two people died in an accident involving a truck and four tricycles while four others were saved in the Ikotun neighborhood of Lagos.

Two people died in the collision, but two others were saved by the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), according to Mr. Bolaji Oreagba, the authority's general manager.

Speaking on behalf of Oreagba in Lagos on Tuesday, Mr. Adebayo Taofiq, Director, Public Affairs and Enlightenment Department LASTMA, said that the four victims were saved from minicommercial buses (tricycles) in the Ikotun neighborhood.

A fully loaded container truck (JJJ 125), along with four mini commercial buses (tricycles) with the registration numbers (LSD 83 QM), (AKD 690 QK), and (AKL 87 QF).

"The driver of one of the tricycles, which were smaller commercial vehicles, perished instantaneously.

"Among the four accident victims saved by LASTMA staff were two expectant mothers and two kids.

Oreagba stated that LASTMA workers "immediately handed over those rescued victims to Police guys from Ikotun Police Station who transported them to General Hospital for treatment."

He claimed that initial investigations showed that the fully loaded truck (JJJ 125) suffered a brake failure and crushed three tricycles by a valley near the Synagogue while traveling towards Ikotun.

The rescued victims were immediately turned over by LASTMA staff to Ikotun Police Station officers, who then transported them to General Hospital for treatment, according to Oreagba.

He added that there were other emergency responders on the site, including Nigerian police officers from the Ikotun Police Station.

However, Tanker Owners and Drivers were cautioned by LASTMA's General Manager to always make sure that their tankers were fully inspected and in good condition before
