DAN DISTANCES ITSELF FROM EXTORTION CLAIMS AGAINST LAGOS COMMISSIONER
The Dredgers Association of Nigeria (DAN) has denied issuing a report accusing the Lagos State Commissioner for Waterfront Infrastructure Development, Hon. Ekundayo Alebiosu, and Mr. Cardozo of alleged harassment, intimidation and extortion of dredgers and tipper operators.

The Association, in a disclaimer signed by its National President, Batare Akpomejero, and National Secretary, Richard Ntan, said it had no connection with the publication circulated by Linda Ikeji’s Blog and other online platforms on October 23, 2026.

The report, titled “Dredgers Association Appeals to Sanwo-Olu Over Alleged Extortion, Urges Governor to Call Alebiosu, Cardozo to Order,” alleged misconduct involving dredgers and tipper operators.

However, DAN maintained that the report did not originate from its national leadership or any authorised organ of the Association.

It also clarified that it neither approved nor issued any petition or press statement accusing Alebiosu and Cardozo of extortion, harassment or intimidation.

The Association further stated that it had no record of the alleged seizure of trucks and demand for ₦500,000, as reported in the publication, stressing that it completely disassociated itself from the claims.

Reaffirming its relationship with the Lagos State Government, DAN described its engagement with Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s administration and the Ministry of Waterfront Infrastructure Development as cordial and cooperative.

On issues concerning dredging regulations and the interpretation of Supreme Court judgments relating to shoreline authority, the Association explained that discussions were being handled through established institutional channels.

According to DAN, engagements with relevant federal and state authorities were being pursued through dialogue rather than public confrontations in the media.

The Association consequently urged the Lagos State Government, Alebiosu and other stakeholders, as well as members of the public, to disregard the publication as an authorised statement from DAN.

It also expressed regret over any embarrassment or reputational damage the report might have caused the state government, the commissioner and other officials mentioned.

DAN reiterated its commitment to promoting lawful and sustainable dredging activities across Nigeria, while maintaining constructive relationships with government agencies and other industry stakeholders.
