‎PTML Customs Pledges Strong Support for COWA as Nabila Miko Takes Over Leadership
‎The Customs Area Controller of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Ports and Terminal Multiservices Limited (PTML) Command, Deputy Comptroller NI Miko, has reaffirmed the Command's commitment to supporting the activities of the Customs Officers' Wives Association (COWA), describing the association as a strategic partner in promoting the welfare of officers and their families.
‎Speaking during the taking-over ceremony of the COWA PTML Chapter on Wednesday, Miko said the association plays a vital role in ensuring stability on the home front, which ultimately contributes to effective service delivery within the Service.
‎"Beyond these projects, I must acknowledge and appreciate COWA for what I consider your most critical role: that is, taking care of the home front. While we officers are engaged in the discharge of our statutory duties of revenue collection, trade facilitation, and anti-smuggling, you ensure that our homes remain stable, peaceful, and productive. A stable home is the foundation of effective service delivery, and for that, we remain grateful," he said.
‎The Customs Area Controller commended the immediate past leadership of the chapter under Mrs. Ifeoluwa Anani for the impactful projects executed during her tenure, noting that the association had continued to make meaningful contributions to the welfare of members and the wider community.
‎Congratulating the new Chairperson, Hajiya Nabila Nura Miko, on her emergence, Miko expressed confidence in her ability to build on existing achievements.
‎"To the Chairperson, Hajiya Nabila Nura Miko, I congratulate you on your new responsibility. I am confident that you will build on the solid foundation laid by your predecessor and take the Chapter to greater heights," he stated.
‎He further assured the new leadership of the Command's unwavering support.
‎"On behalf of the officers and men of PTML Command, I assure COWA PTML Chapter that we will always support your activities. The Command recognizes COWA as a strategic partner in promoting the welfare of officers and their families. Whatever support is required within our capacity – be it logistics, venue, or moral support – will be readily provided."
‎Miko also praised the National President of COWA, Mrs. Kikelomo Adeniyi, for her leadership and commitment to strengthening chapters across the country.
‎In her acceptance speech, the newly inaugurated Chairperson, Hajiya Nabila Nura Miko, pledged to consolidate on the successes of previous administrations while advancing initiatives aimed at improving members' welfare, empowerment, and community service.
‎She expressed gratitude to the National President, saying, "Her guidance and sterling leadership qualities have been of immense support to the Customs Officers' Wives Association nationwide.
‎Her encouragement in keeping COWA members motivated is second to none."
‎The new chairperson also paid tribute to her predecessor, Mrs. Ifeoluwa Anani, for laying a strong foundation for the chapter.
‎"She served with passion and integrity, and the impact of her tenure is visible across all our programmes. I am committed to building on the achievements and successes of her administration while also breaking new ground for the promotion of COWA objectives and the enhancement of the welfare of Customs officers' wives," she said.
‎Highlighting the chapter's achievements, Nabila Miko noted that the association had successfully implemented several impactful programmes, including International Women's Day celebrations, health sensitization workshops, breast cancer awareness campaigns, end-of-year outreach activities, participation in the Green Border Initiative School Adoption programme, and environmental sensitization lectures.
‎She outlined three priority areas for her administration: welfare, empowerment, and community service.
‎"In line with the National Headquarters' agenda, my administration will prioritize three key areas: Welfare: Strengthening support systems for wives of officers, especially during challenging times; Empowerment: Expanding skills acquisition and financial independence programmes for members; and Community Service: Deepening our impact through health, education, and environmental initiatives," she stated.
‎The new chairperson called for the cooperation and support of members, Command management, and stakeholders to enable the chapter achieve its objectives.
