Ikorodu Ferry Terminal Resumes Operations After Three-Month Closure

Passenger ferry services are set to return to the Ikorodu Ferry Terminal from Monday, 19 January 2026, following the resolution of safety and navigational issues that prompted its closure late last year.
The reopening was announced in a statement by the Lagos State Waterways Authority (LASWA) informing ferry operators and terminal users of the development. The terminal had been closed since Monday, 20 October 2025 due to navigational concerns caused by water hyacinth infestation, leading to the temporary diversion of ferry services to Ibeshe Terminal and Offin Jetty.
The statement explained that the terminal was cleared for reopening after the successful removal of the water hyacinth, completion of safety assessments, and consultations with the National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA).
“All operators are hereby directed to resume normal services in line with their approved schedules and ensure full compliance with all existing safety and operational requirements,” the statement said.
The resumption of operations at the Ikorodu Ferry Terminal is expected to restore regular water transport services in the area and provide relief to commuters who have had to rely on alternative terminals during the period of closure.
