The Lagos State Government has announced the partial and total closure of jetties and terminals along the Five Cowries Creek to pave the way for the hosting of the E1 Championship, the world’s first all-electric powerboat racing tournament.

In a statement issued on Monday, the Lagos State Waterways Authority (LASWA) said the temporary restrictions would take place from Thursday, October 2 to Sunday, October 5, 2025, affecting both private and commercial operators.

Specifically, LASWA disclosed that on Thursday, October 2, 2025, there will be partial closure from Falomo Bridge to Oriental Hotel between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m.

On Friday, October 3, 2025, there will be total closure from Oriental Hotel to Mekwen Bridge between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m.

On Saturday, October 4, and Sunday, October 5, 2025, there will be total closure from Falomo Bridge to Oriental Hotel between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. daily.

“This temporary closure is to facilitate the successful hosting of the E1 Championship, the world’s first all-electric powerboat racing tournament with the Lagos series scheduled to take place along the Five Cowries Creek during this period,” LASWA explained.

According to the agency, the restriction is a vital safety and security measure to ensure seamless event operations, safeguard lives, and project Lagos as a world-class destination for international sporting events.

Normal ferry operations along the affected routes are expected to resume on Monday, October 6, 2025.

“We urge all waterway users to kindly cooperate by making use of alternative ferry routes and make travel arrangements ahead of time. The Lagos State Government appreciates your patience and understanding as we work together to deliver this historic world championship,” LASWA added.
