President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved a one-year extension of the tenure of the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Mr. Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, MFR. His tenure, which was initially set to expire on August 31, 2025, will now continue through 2026.

The announcement was made in a statement issued by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy on Thursday.

According to the statement, the extension is aimed at allowing Mr. Adeniyi to consolidate key reforms and oversee the completion of major initiatives under the current administration. These include:

The modernisation of the Nigeria Customs Service, implementation of the National Single Window Project and the execution of Nigeria’s obligations under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) protocol.

“President Tinubu recognises Mr. Adeniyi’s steadfast leadership and commitment to service,” the statement read.

It further noted that the President is confident the extension will “further strengthen the Nigeria Customs Service in achieving its strategic mandate of trade facilitation, revenue generation, and border security.”
