The Kano State Police Command, under the leadership of CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, PhD, has demonstrated remarkable efficacy in combating crime since assumption of office.
CP Bakori updated the media on the state's security situation at a briefing on Friday, May 9th 2025 at the Bompai Police Headquarters.
Highlighting the recent successes and continued efforts to keep Kano safe, Bakori outlined the Command’s crime prevention strategies, which align with directives from the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun. These include operational sectorization, enhanced visibility patrols, intelligence-led operations, and strengthened community policing.
“These achievements are testaments to the facts that the above strategies are a masterpiece in crime fighting and have helped to confront the triggers of crimes - particularly drug trafficking and abuse, heads-on,” CP Bakori said.
78 suspects nabbed between April 23 and May 9, 2025, Two Beretta pistols with ten rounds of live ammunition, cartons of Pentazocine injections, Pregabalin, Tramadol, Diazepam, and Codeine syrup, Eight motor vehicles, three tricycles, two motorcycles, and twelve mobile phones, 198 fake US dollar bills and counterfeit Naira notes totaling ₦311,000.
Among those arrested were five armed robbery suspects, seven suspected drug dealers, a cattle rustler, four fraudsters, 13 thieves, and 48 thugs (yan daba).
One notable case involved the arrest of an infamous drug dealer, Suleiman Danwawu of Tudun Yola Quarters, who had been previously arrested with 500 cartons of suspected Tramadol in 2022. He was caught again, this time with large quantities of Pregabalin, Tramadol, and Codeine, alongside two vehicles.
CP Bakori noted that the Command’s efforts have led to a significant reduction in thuggery, phone snatching, armed robbery, and other violent crimes. He reassured residents of the state’s commitment to peace and safety.
“I want to assure you that the Kano State Police Command will remain resolute and steadfast in ensuring that peace continues to prevail in the State,” he stated.
While thanking the media and the public for their continued support, CP Bakori urged citizens to remain proactive and partner with the police by providing valuable information that can help prevent potential security threats.
“While I appreciate the continued support of the good media teams and law-abiding people in the State, I encourage everyone to keep cooperating with the Police by being proactive in providing valuable information that will aid in addressing any likely emerging security threats,” he said.
