Tola Adenubi Clinches N1m Pius Akutah Maritime Reporter Award at MIMA 2025

It was a big night for maritime journalism as Nigerian Tribune’s Tola Adenubi walked away with the N1 million cash prize for the Pius Akutah Best Maritime Reporter of the Year award. The win came during the 27th edition of the Maritime Industry Merit Awards (MIMA) held Tuesday in Lagos.
Presenting the award on behalf of the Executive Secretary/CEO of the Nigerian Shippers Council, Dr. Pius Akutah, was Mr. Moses Abere, a Director at the Council. He emphasized the essence of the recognition, saying, “The award was in recognition of impactful maritime journalism.”
The night also celebrated key players across the industry from terminal operators to Customs officers, brokers, and top agency heads.
Some of the big names that joined the winners’ list included the West African Container Terminal (WACT), Sifax Group, and top customs officials like Assistant Comptroller General Dera Nnadi and Apapa Command’s Customs Area Controller, Babatunde Olomu.
Other notable awardees were Olusegun Oduntan, Vice President of the Association of Nigerian Licensed Customs Agents (ANLCA); Engineer Sarat Braimah, Lagos Area Manager of NIWA; Damilola Emmanuel, GM of LASWA; and Abubakar Dantsoho, MD of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA). Even tourism got a nod, with frontline expert Frank Meke receiving recognition.
