Opposition Parties Slam APC for Electoral Rule Violations in Oshodi/Isolo LGA

The Forum of Opposition Political Parties (FOPP) has strongly condemned the All Progressives Congress (APC) for violating electoral rules in Oshodi/Isolo Local Government Area (LGA). At a press conference held at the ParkLane Hotel, Ajao Estate on April 16, 2025, the FOPP expressed outrage over the APC's blatant disregard for electoral guidelines.

The Violations

According to the FOPP, the APC's sitting Council Chairman and other party aspirants have failed to remove their campaign banners, despite clear guidelines to do so. This, the FOPP argues, undermines the integrity of the electoral process and creates an uneven playing field for contestants. The opposition parties pointed out that this action constitutes a clear abuse of incumbency, with the sitting Council Chairman using his position to gain an unfair advantage over other contestants.

The FOPP has strongly condemned the APC's actions, describing them as a blatant disregard for the rules and guidelines that govern the electoral process. The opposition parties argue that this behavior sends a message that the APC is above the law and unwilling to play by the rules. "We, the opposition parties, strongly condemn this blatant disregard for the rules and urge the electoral authorities to take immediate action to enforce compliance," said Mr. Ola Ogunbona, Secretary of the FOPP

The FOPP has made several demands, including:

The APC aspirants, including the sitting Council Chairman, must remove their campaign banners in compliance with electoral guidelines.

The electoral authorities must ensure a level playing field for all contestants, preventing any further abuse of incumbency.

Sanctions should be imposed on APC aspirants who fail to comply with electoral rules.

Prompt action should be taken against violators, including disqualification and other disciplinary measures.

Despite the APC's violations, the FOPP has expressed willingness to work with the electoral authorities to promote transparency, accountability, and fairness in the electoral process.

The opposition parties believe that a free and fair electoral process is essential for the health of democracy in Nigeria. "Let's work together to promote transparency, accountability, and fairness in our electoral process," said Ogunbona.

"We are ready to work with LASIEC to achieve the best, free and fair electoral outcome in the coming elections."
