Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria Extends Nomination Deadline, Opens Door for More Aspirants
In a move aimed at increasing participation and inclusivity in its upcoming elections, the Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria (MWUN) has announced a one-week extension for the submission of nomination forms.
This decision, which was made by the union's leadership under Comrade (Prince) Dr. Adewale Adetanju, is expected to provide more opportunities for aspiring candidates to participate in the electoral process.
The initial deadline for the submission of nomination forms had been set for March 3, 2025. However, following a review of the timeline, the union's Secretary-General has directed that all completed nomination forms should now be submitted to his office on or before March 10, 2025.
This extension is a welcome development for many aspiring candidates who may have encountered challenges in meeting the initial deadline. The MWUN had earlier issued a directive lifting the ban on campaign activities for elective national posts, paving the way for prospective candidates to obtain nomination forms, fill them out, and submit them within the stipulated timeframe.
The nomination process, which commenced on February 3, 2025, was initially expected to last for one month, ending on March 3, 2025. However, with the extension, aspiring candidates now have an additional week to complete and submit their nomination forms.
The MWUN's decision to extend the nomination deadline is seen as a positive step towards promoting democracy and inclusivity within the union. By providing more time for aspiring candidates to participate in the electoral process, the union is demonstrating its commitment to fairness, transparency, and accountability.
As the nomination process continues, the MWUN is urging all interested candidates to take advantage of the extended deadline and submit their completed nomination forms to the office of the Secretary-General before March 10, 2025.
The Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria is a key stakeholder in the country's maritime industry, and its elections are closely watched by industry players and stakeholders.
The outcome of the elections is expected to shape the direction of the union and the industry as a whole in the coming years.
