The Nigeria Customs Service's Apapa Port Command recorded its biggest revenue collection in its history on Friday, March 14, 2025, with a daily total of ₦18.9 billion. The previous record of ₦18.2b2 per day, set in October 2024, is surpassed by this new milestone.
The accomplishment was made possible by the officers' commitment to duty, maintenance of compliance as a standard, and encouragement of industrial harmony in Apapa Port, as well as the CGC's steadfast support, according to Comptroller Babatunde Olomu, Area Controller of the Command, who called the accomplishment the start of bigger exploits to be accomplished in 2025.
The Controller, following the orders of the CGC, initiated high-level conversations to collaborate with the Nigerian Ports Authority in addressing all conflicts with port users and truckers regarding the Eto’o call-up system, which had resulted in traffic congestion along the Apapa Port corridor.
Comptroller Olomu intervened to prevent maritime personnel and goods forwarders from withdrawing services owing to unresolved concerns between them and APM Terminals, in accordance with CGC orders. The CAC's efforts prevented a port shutdown and increased production by ensuring seamless import and export activities.
Speaking about the impressive tax collection and cordial working atmosphere, Comptroller Olomu stated, “Ports are critical national assets with direct impacts on the economy touching on local and global trade. It is, therefore, imperative to keep the ports working, especially Apapa Port, which accounts for the highest volume of cargoes coming into Nigeria.”
"In line with the directives of the CGC, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, MFR who has promotion of robust stakeholders engagement as one of his cardinal thrust, we intervened in the disputes involving sister government agencies, terminal operators and stakeholders in the port”.
“It is heartwarming to note that our intervention succeeded in promoting uninterrupted trade and strengthening port users’ confidence”
“Our record-breaking achievement of ₦18.9b daily collection on Friday, March 14 , 2025 is the beginning of greater exploits to be attained this year. We are also not lowering our guard in the fight against smuggling as our officers are ever ready to detect concealments, under declaration, false declaration, and other antics geard towards duty evasion,” he said.
