Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria Refutes Misleading Succession Claims

Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria Refutes Misleading Succession Claims
The Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria (MWUN) has denied what it calls misleading information about the succession of its leader, Dr. Adewale Adeyanju, whose tenure expires soon.

In a rejoinder, MWUN stated that the union has only recently lifted its ban on campaigns, and forms for aspirants to declare their intention to contest have not yet been issued.

MWUN criticized the publication "Ships & Ports" for propagating unverified information about purported candidates and their alleged strategies, calling it premature and misleading.
The union also rejected claims that financial resources and government influence will dictate the outcome of the forthcoming election, emphasizing that MWUN is a democratically run organization guided by its constitution.

The union's leadership election is a structured process designed to reflect the will of its members, not a political circus. MWUN urged media outlets to prioritize accuracy and impartiality in their reportage and to avoid publishing unverified reports that could undermine the unity and stability of the union.

The rejoinder was signed by Comrade John Kennedy Ikemefuna, Media Head of the Union, and Comrade Erasua Oniha, Deputy Secretary General of MWUN.
