The Kirikiri Lighter Terminal Customs Area Command (KLTC) has achieved a remarkable 101% surge in revenue for 2024, generating ₦107,182,674,904 compared to ₦53,429,613,592 in 2023. This significant growth is attributed to the Command's strategic efforts to strengthen revenue collection, improve compliance, and enhance operational efficiency.
According to Comptroller Joy Edeldouk, the success can be traced to several key factors, including the implementation of streamlined processes, leveraging technology, and ensuring excellent stakeholder engagement to facilitate legitimate trade. The Command has also utilized data analytics and intelligence gathering to identify and combat smuggling, fraud, and other customs offenses.
Comptroller Edeldouk emphasized that the Command's commitment to capacity building has been instrumental in its success. Providing regular training and development programs for officers has enhanced their skills, knowledge, and professionalism, enabling them to effectively discharge their duties.
The Command's stakeholder engagement strategy has also played a crucial role in its success. By fostering collaborative relationships with importers, sister agencies, and other stakeholders, the Command has promoted compliance and facilitated trade.
The KLTC intends to build on its success by implementing robust risk management systems and data analytics to enhance revenue collection in 2025. This move is expected to further strengthen the Command's revenue collection efforts and improve its overall efficiency.
In addition to its revenue achievements, the KLTC also celebrated the promotion of 37 officers within the Command.
The promoted officers include 4 Comptrollers, 3 Deputy Comptrollers, 5 Assistant Comptrollers, and 7 Chief Superintendents of Customs, among others.
Comptroller Edeldouk expressed pride in the dedication and hard work of the promoted officers, emphasizing that leadership is not just about achieving success, but also about lifting others up and making a positive impact on those around them.
"I want to say how proud I am of each and every one of you," Comptroller Edeldouk said. "Your commitment to excellence, your passion for your work, and your willingness to go above and beyond have not gone unnoticed. This promotion is not just a recognition of your achievements, but also a testament to your potential for future growth and success."
The promotion ceremony was attended by senior customs officials, including the Comptroller-General of Customs, who was represented by a senior officer. The event marked a significant milestone in the careers of the promoted officers, who are expected to play key roles in shaping the future of the Nigeria Customs Service.
In conclusion, the KLTC's remarkable revenue growth and the promotion of 37 officers are testaments to the Command's commitment to excellence and its dedication to the development of its personnel. As the Command looks to the future, it is clear that it will continue to play a vital role in the Nigeria Customs Service's efforts to promote trade facilitation, revenue collection, and national security.
