It was a day of pride, gratitude, and renewed commitment as the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) Zone ‘A’ decorated 106 newly promoted officers in a grand ceremony held in Lagos.
The event marked the elevation of 39 Comptrollers and 67 Deputy Comptrollers to their new ranks, signifying recognition of their hard work and dedication.
The Zone ‘A’ Coordinator, Assistant Comptroller General (ACG) Charles Orbih, who presided over the ceremony, charged the newly decorated officers to rise to the demands of their new positions. He urged them to focus on key areas of the Service, including revenue collection, trade facilitation, and anti-smuggling operations.
Commending the leadership of the Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adeniyi, ACG Orbih highlighted the importance of rewarding excellence.
“These promotions carried the weight of great responsibilities, aligning with our core values of integrity and professionalism,” Orbih said. “Much more is expected of you by the Service because of this well-deserved promotion bestowed upon you today.”
Orbih reminded the officers of the transformative vision steering the NCS: consolidating automation processes, enhancing digital infrastructure, and fostering collaboration with stakeholders and sister agencies to advance trade facilitation. He also encouraged those yet to be promoted to remain steadfast, assuring them that their dedication would be recognized in due course.
From the Association of Nigerian Licensed Customs Agents (ANLCA), National Vice President Segun Oduntan extended greetings on behalf of the association’s president. With over 4,000 licensed members, he pledged ANLCA’s continued collaboration with Customs to exceed targets.
“Maintaining stakeholder engagement is crucial,” Oduntan remarked, reinforcing the importance of mutual support in achieving the Service’s goals.
Several Public Relations Officers also ascended to the rank of Deputy Comptroller, including Abdullahi Maiwada, Abubakar Usman, Muhammed Yakubu, and Akaninyene Edeminam, among others.
The ceremony drew a distinguished audience, including Comptroller Babatunde Olomu of Apapa Customs Command, Comptroller Paul Bamisaiye of Western Marine Command, and Comptroller Akinla Odusanya of Lilypond Customs Export Command. Representatives of sister agencies and industry stakeholders were also in attendance, adding to the celebratory atmosphere.
As the newly promoted officers donned their insignia, the message was clear: excellence and hard work do not go unnoticed. The day marked not just the beginning of new roles, but a renewed commitment to the ideals of the Nigeria Customs Service.
