Ogun State Woos US Investment: Governor Abiodun Seeks Support for Developmental Programmes
Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has called for support from the United States Government to bolster his administration's efforts aimed at improving the lives of the people of the state.
Governor Abiodun made this plea on Thursday when he received the Ambassador of the United States of America to Nigeria, Mr. Richard Mills, who paid him a courtesy visit at his office in Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.
Represented by his Deputy, Engr. (Mrs.) Noimot Salako-Oyedele, the governor informed the envoy that his administration has invested significantly over the past five years in empowering citizens, aligning with his vision to enhance their lives and living standards.
"Our vision upon assumption of office was clear: to improve the lives and livelihoods of our people. Our policies have consistently reflected this goal. We've prioritized empowerment, notably through the Oko'wo Dapo programme, which benefited 100,000 women, boosting their financial capacity. We recognize the critical role Small and Medium Scale Enterprises play in driving the economy."
Governor Abiodun highlighted his administration's focus on infrastructure development and business-friendly policies, which have attracted substantial foreign direct investments to the state.
"We've made significant strides in infrastructure development, including the Agro-cargo Airport, facilitating import and export operations for our industries. Recently, we broke ground on our dry port project, eliminating the need for investors and manufacturers to travel to Apapa Port. Our integrated transport system aims to make Ogun State an attractive destination for investments."
Responding, Ambassador Richard Mills praised Ogun State's dynamic business environment and potential for American investments.
"Ogun State is a beacon for business and economic opportunities, with numerous American investments. Through my discussions with government officials, I've discovered impressive programmes supporting small businesses and women entrepreneurs, as well as vast investment opportunities."
Ambassador Mills expressed enthusiasm for future collaborations, emphasizing the mutual benefits of strengthening economic ties between Ogun State and the United States.
The courtesy visit underscored the Abiodun administration's commitment to fostering partnerships that drive sustainable development and improve the lives of Ogun State citizens.
