Lagos State Government Tackles Flash Flooding: A Comprehensive Approach
The Lagos State Government is taking bold steps to tackle flash flooding and environmental degradation in the metropolis. Commissioner Tokunbo Wahab's recent inspection of drainage projects and infractions in Eti-Osa Local Government Area marked the beginning of a new era in the state's environmental efforts.

The government has been negotiating with residents and homeowners along System 156 and 157, who have been obstructing drainage, offering them two options: remove the obstructions or fund a practicable design . 

To address the issue, the government will commence construction on January 2025, after residents deposit funds into an escrow account. The project aims to deflood areas like Ogudu, Ojota, Ifako, Gbagada, and Maryland.

Additionally, the government has identified illegal dredging activities at Onikoyi Waterfront and Lekki Modular Septage Pretreatment Plant, issuing a Stop Work Order to operators . 

The government is also taking measures to prevent encroachment and remove shanties along the Coastal Road, ensuring the outlet discharges water into the Atlantic.
