The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS)'s Western Marine Command has made outstanding seizures of 26 prohibited products in the first half of 2024, with a duty-paid value of N843,424,000.00.

This is a noteworthy rise of N724,842,665.00, a significant 611.26%, over the N118,581,335 performance in 2023.

The Customs Area Controller, Comptroller P K Bamisaiye, revealed this in a half year report issued by the Command Public Relations Officer, Superintendent of Customs Mailafiya Magaji.

According to the report, the increase in revenue and quantity of seizures is a result of unwavering commitment by the officers and men of the Command demonstrating a higher level of devotion and performance.

5,685 loaves of valued Cannabis Sativa are the most valuable seizure, contributing to the 2024 half-year performance being exceptional.

The Command also improved its record with the seizure of 925 bags of 5Okg bags of imported parboiled rice, valued at N97,448,000.00, with duty paid, during the period under reference. This was more than N10,000,000.00 over the 2023 DPV estimate of N86,600,000.00.

Petroleum Motor Spirit (PMS) is another significant commodity, the seizure of which helped the Command achieve a noteworthy mid-year result.

A thorough examination of PMS interceptions shows that 21,500 litres of the product were seized over the course of the investigation. In comparison, 17,865 litres of PMS were found over the same time frame the previous year.

From January to June 2024, the commodity's DPV was N14,186,000.00.00, compared to N2,707,433.00 over the same period the previous year.

According to the report, the Western Marine Command, led by Comptroller Bamisaiye, will continue to enforce desired anti-smuggling functions without wavering.

Bamisaíye affirmed his commitment in ensuring the Command's support for the CGC and his Management Team in fulfilling the Service's mandate.
