Lagos Launches Eco-Circulate Initiative to Promote Circular Economy in Badagry
The Lagos State government has launched an innovative waste-to-value initiative, Eco-Circulate, aimed at promoting sustainable development practices in the state. The program, led by the Office of the Special Adviser on Climate Change and Circular Economy, Mrs. Titilayo Oshodi, was held in Badagry, where residents benefited from various rewards, including food items, cash, free transport vouchers, and health insurance enrollment opportunities.
Eco-Circulate is a waste valorisation, data aggregation, and circular education program designed to enlighten communities about the value of waste recycling, reusing, and reducing.
The initiative aims to educate residents on the importance of effective waste management and its impact on their health, productivity, financial capability, and overall quality of life.
The program features a vibrant waste-to-value bazaar, where residents can exchange their waste for rewards.
The government has partnered with private sector entities and agencies like LAWMA, LASHMA, LASRRA, and IOGC to ensure the success of the initiative.
The Special Adviser emphasized the need to sustain circular economy practices in rural areas, highlighting the government's efforts to stimulate ideals and models of circular economy in Lagos.
The program will be scaled across the 57 local councils in Lagos, with Badagry serving as a pilot location to gather data and build a business case.
The Commissioner for Local Government, Chieftaincy Affairs and Rural Development, Mr. Bolaji Roberts, urged residents to take full advantage of the initiative, assuring their cooperation and thanking the Office of the Special Adviser for considering Badagry worthy of hosting the flag-off campaign.
Eco-Circulate is a one-day sensitization campaign to enlighten communities on the values waste can offer, activate and engage communities, especially businesses on the nano and micro level, as key beneficiaries in the state's drive towards a Circular Economy.
