Insecurity: Nigeria's Reluctance to Embrace Security Technology Hinders Crime-Fighting Efforts - Expert
Despite the country's precarious security situation, Nigerians and the government have yet to fully embrace globally recognized security engineering technology to combat crime and protect lives and assets, according to Dr. Mustapha Kazeem Lusty, Managing Director/CEO of Kontz Engineering Limited.
In an exclusive interview with People's Forum Magazine/Online, Dr. Lusty noted that Nigerians' primary responses to insecurity are seeking spiritual protection, praying, and relying on police presence, with technology being the last resort.
He emphasized that security engineering technology can provide real-time monitoring and control of one's environment, enabling individuals to be proactive about their security.
Dr. Lusty attributed the growing insecurity in Nigeria to the failure to combine technology with physical policing. He highlighted the effectiveness of technology in detecting and preventing crime, citing examples such as aerial cameras and smart home security systems.
The security expert urged Nigerian governments and citizens to adopt technology to combat crime, stressing that increased chances of arrest and reduced escape routes will deter criminal activity.
He emphasized that technology is a crucial tool in the fight against insecurity and that its adoption is essential for a safer Nigeria.
