IGP Egbetokun Appoints DCP Bayonle Kafar Sulaiman as New Commander of Petroleum Task Force, Vows to Combat Oil Theft and Economic Sabotage
The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM, has taken a significant step in the fight against oil theft and economic sabotage by appointing Deputy Commissioner of Police, DCP Bayonle Kafar Sulaiman, as the new Commanding Officer of the Inspector-General of Police Special Task Force on Petroleum And Illegal Bunkering (IGP-STFPIB).
The appointment of DCP Sulaiman, who has a proven track record in similar taskforce operations, is part of the IGP's efforts to restructure the team for excellent service delivery. As the new Commander, DCP Sulaiman is tasked with leading the task force in combating illegal activities in the petroleum industry, including oil theft, illegal bunkering, and pipeline vandalism.
IGP Egbetokun has condemned the trend of oil theft, pipeline vandalism, and illegal bunkering, describing it as a significant threat to the environment, economy, and energy security. He emphasized that these illegal activities result in significant financial losses and devastating environmental consequences, including oil spills, pollution, and habitat destruction.
The IGP has ordered DCP Sulaiman to ensure deterrence by prosecuting all individuals found culpable and deploying his assets to prevent economic sabotage in the upper and downstream of the oil sector in Nigeria.
He also appealed to all relevant stakeholders in the oil industry and well-meaning Nigerians to work hand-in-hand with the Police and other security agencies to collectively curb this menace.
IGP Egbetokun's appointment of DCP Sulaiman is a clear indication of his commitment to combating oil theft and economic sabotage. The new Commander's experience and expertise will be crucial in leading the task force to success.
