Governor Otu Inspects Calapharm, Receives Assurance of September Takeoff, Hails Ayade's Vision
Cross River State Governor, Prince Bassey Otu, has inspected the state-owned pharmaceutical company, Calapharm, and received assurance that production will commence in September 2023, pending accreditation from the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC).
Governor Otu expressed satisfaction with the quality of machinery and facilities at Calapharm, which he described as one of the premier pharmaceutical companies in West Africa.
The Governor acknowledged his predecessor, former governor Ben Ayade, for his foresight in initiating the project, which will contribute to the state's health insurance scheme and provide employment opportunities for youths.
Technical Director of Calapharm, Pharmacist Odunlami Ibidapo, revealed that the company meets international standards and will specialize in manufacturing various pharmaceutical products, including tablets, capsules, liquids, and steroids.
Governor Otu committed his administration to ensuring the production of essential consumables for treatment and prevention through Calapharm, which will have a significant impact on the regional economy.
The construction of Calapharm commenced in 2017 but faced delays. Governor Otu had promised to ensure production in the company when he took office in 2023.
