Governor Diri Urges President Tinubu to Sack Contractor Over East-West Road Delays
Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri, has appealed to President Bola Tinubu to terminate the contract of the company handling the East-West road project due to lack of capacity.
The governor made the call after experiencing firsthand the deplorable state of the road, which has left commuters stranded for hours.
Governor Diri described the situation as "pathetic and unacceptable" and urged South-South legislators to prioritize the project in the National Assembly. He also called on the Minister of Works, Engr. Dave Umahi, to visit the site and take urgent action to alleviate the suffering of Nigerians.
The governor's appeal comes after he was stuck in traffic for over two hours on his way to the Niger Delta Stakeholders Summit in Port Harcourt.
He expressed disappointment that the contractor, Rock Result, had failed to make significant progress on the project despite the importance of the road to the region.
