Former Rep. Oghene Egoh Urges Lagos Youths to Shun Planned Protest, Cites Potential for Violence and Unrest
Former member of the House of Representatives, Mr. Oghene Egoh, has appealed to youths in Lagos to avoid participating in the planned nationwide protest against hardship, warning that it could be hijacked by miscreants, leading to violence and loss of lives. Egoh, who represented Amuwo-Odofin (Lagos) in the National Assembly for two terms, emphasized the right to demonstrate but urged organizers to explore alternative means to demand answers to the country's problems, prioritizing peace.
Egoh cautioned Nigerians to be patient with President Bola Tinubu's administration, citing the devastating consequences of the 2020 #EndSARS protests, which resulted in looting, destruction of properties, and loss of lives. He advised parents and guardians to keep their children and wards at home during the protest, emphasizing Tinubu's commitment to the country's progress through various reforms.
Egoh attributed the current food crisis to bandit attacks on farms, flooding, and climate change effects, urging government to invest in massive mechanized farming to reduce hunger. He also appealed for reduced import duties on food items to make them affordable.
As a former lawmaker who recently defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC), Egoh's appeal carries weight, emphasizing the need for peaceful and constructive engagement to address the country's challenges.
