The Nigeria Customs Service, Area 2 Command Onne, has announced its achievements in revenue generation and anti-smuggling efforts in the first half of 2024. Speaking during a press briefing, the Customs Area Controller, Comptroller Mohammed Babandede, revealed that the Command has generated a total revenue of ₦249.7 billion, representing 50.4% of the initial target and 40.3% of the current annual target. He also disclosed that the Command has seized six containers with a Duty Paid Value of ₦3.1 billion for various customs laws violations.
Comptroller Babandede attributed the successes to intelligence gathering, information sharing, and collaboration with sister agencies, particularly the NDLEA.
He emphasized the importance of synergy and inter-agency cooperation in achieving the Command's goals.
The seized containers, which include used electronics turned e-waste, will be disposed of in collaboration with NESREA.
The Command also clarified procedures regarding Bonded Terminals, emphasizing that the final destination for clearing consignments is at the importer's discretion and not at the discretion of the Command.
The Command urged stakeholders to seek clarification on any issues and promised to continue educating the public on trade laws and procedures.
Overall, the Onne Customs Command's achievements demonstrate its commitment to revenue generation, anti-smuggling efforts, and trade facilitation, aligning with the vision and mission of the Comptroller General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi.
