Gov Diri Appoints Seasoned Military Officer as Bayelsa Airport MD
Governor Douye Diri of Bayelsa State has appointed Air Vice Marshal Nelson Ebieteli Calmday (retired) as the new Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of the Bayelsa State International Airport. The appointment takes immediate effect.

AVM Calmday, born on May 24, 1966, in Nembe, Bayelsa State, is a seasoned military officer and administrator with a distinguished career spanning over three decades. He graduated from the Nigerian Defence Academy in 1990 and holds a Bachelor's degree in Geography, a Master's in Political Science, and a Master's in Strategic Studies. 

He also attended various military and management courses in Nigeria, South Africa, and the United Kingdom.

During his military career, Calmday held various command and staff appointments, including Acting Commanding Officer, Zonal Commander, and Chairman of various task forces. He also served as a Directing Staff at the Armed Forces Command and Staff College and the National War College.

The appointment of AVM Calmday as the MD/CEO of the Bayelsa State International Airport is seen as a strategic move to enhance the airport's operations and management. Governor Diri's Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Daniel Alabrah, announced the appointment on Friday, June 21, 2024.
