NDDC Partners First Generation Bank To Empower Women In Niger Delta Region
The Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC, has reiterated its commitment to empower the women and youths of the Niger Delta Region by partnering with Union Bank of Nigeria plc.
This was made known when a delegation from the bank paid a courtesy visit to the Commission's headquarters in Port Harcourt.
Speaking, the leader of the delegation Mr. Chidi Ileka said that the agenda of the meeting is to speak on Women and Youth Empowerment, because the bank saw an opportunity in that area.
Making a presentation, Chioma Nwokike, Head Alpher Business ( Women Lead Business), said the objective of the collaboration is to support the Niger Delta women in ways that will have ripple effects on their lives, by providing packages that will include Easy Access to funds, Teaching women to pitch themselves, Financial literacy/mentoring, Skills Acquisition amongst others.
In receiving the group, the Managing Director/CEO, Dr. Samuel Ogbuku said that the Niger Delta is the bedrock of Nigeria's economy, and if there is no peace in the region, it affects the country at large. And to encourage that peace in the Niger Delta Region, the NDDC is determined to make her people happy by empowering them because Niger Delta women are industrious.
"We are looking at NDDC empowerment projects, we are also looking at providing single digit loans, so our women can access this loans without difficulty."
The MD/CEO also noted that the NDDC is interested in embarking in projects that will be sustainable and not just politically motivated. According to the Chief Executive Officer, the Niger Delta Chamber of Commerce will build structures that will streamline the activities of beneficiaries.
" We are going to be supporting the decisions of the Chamber of Commerce which will help in promoting commerce and identifying entrepreneurs".
Meanwhile, the Niger Delta Development Commission has commenced the cluster training of supervisors and collation officers for the Project Hope Initiative, today, Monday, 23rd October, 2023 at the Rivers State ICT center, Port Harcourt.
This cluster training involves a field brief, training and equipping of about 200 Niger Deltans from different LGAs in the region.
These officers will be trained according to the various responsibilities for which they were selected before they are dispatched to their various LGAs for commencement of the second phase of Project Hope.
Project Hope Initiative is geared towards empowering and developing youths in the Niger Delta towards a sustainable future while creating positive change in the region.
