The new Acting President of the New Nigeria Peoples Party, (NNPP), Dr Agbo Gilbert Major and other leaders of the party have called for an investigation of mismanaged funds of over a Billion Naira raised from the sale of forms in 2023.
The was contained in a Press Release signed by the Acting National Secretary, Abdulsalam Abdulrasaq.
The investigation was one of the decisions taken at the first meeting of the newly elected leaders, which was convened in the Abuja National Secretariat following an analysis of the circumstances brought on by the party's egregious mismanagement over the previous year.
One of the decisions made at the meeting is to launch a comprehensive investigation into the misuse of more than one billion naira (N1b) obtained through the selling of application forms to candidates between March 2022 till date.
"The meeting resolved to invite relevant security agencies to properly examine the accounts of the party with a view to demanding explanations from the party's presidential candidate, the party's chairman who left in March 2023, the sacked acting chairman and the National Secretary. This is to restore confidence of party members/candidates who came forward with their hard earned money to purchase forms".
The party questioned why the Situation Room was located in the presidential candidate's home and accused Buba Galadinma of imposing candidates.
"The illegal location created room for the massive corruption and manipulation leading to imposition of candidates by Buba Galadima and his co-travellers and resolved to set up a Committee to launch a probe into it. It therefore called for written complaints from aggrieved candidates who were shortchanged after making payments for forms into the party's account".
The party further decided to investigate the justification for denying other presidential contenders the opportunity to purchase a form and take part in the fraudulent primary election that resulted in Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, insisting that it was against the principles of equity and fairness that the great party upholds.
The leaders argued that the MOU between the Kwankwasiya Movement and TNM was not focused on the openness and inclusion objectives of the party but rather was meant to stroke the ego of its sole owner. They also revealed that the party had withdrawn from the MOU it had drafted with the TNM and the Kwankwasiya Movement.
They urged their massive party members and supporters to maintain composure in the face of the brazen attack by the Kwankwasiya movement, whose members had been led to believe that the party had been sold to them.
While urging all disgruntled and displaced members who had left for any reason to come back, they also made the decision to restructure the party at all levels nationwide.
