NLC Strike: MWUN Directs Port Workers to shut down Operations

The Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria (MWUN) has directed all maritime workers to embark on a two day Nation Wide Strike, following the refusal of the Federal Government to engage and reach an agreement with the Organised Labour on  critical issues surrounding the hike in the price of petrol, which has unleashed massive suffering on Nigerian Workers and the Citizens.

MWUN President - General, Prince Adewale Adeyanju issued the directive in a statement signed by the Head of Media, MWUN, John Ikemefuna on Monday.

The communique issued by the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) directs all its affiliates to embark on a TWO-DAY nation wide strike scheduled for Tuesday, 5th September and Wednesday 6th September, 2023.

Comrade Adeyanju said the Union is complying with the directive because they are an affiliate of the Nigerian Labour Congress.

"The Maritime Workers Union as an affiliate of the NLC, are obliged to comply with the directive and has consequently instructed all our members in all ports, Jetties, terminals, and oil & gas platforms nation wide to partake on the Two-Day total strike as directed by the NLC".
