Maritime Workers Union,Labour union mobilize support by members for proposed  protest.

The Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria ( MWUN),under the leadership of (Dr)Prince Adewale Adeyanju, president General of the Union and Deputy President,Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC),has directed its members nation wide to begin immediate mass mobilization to actively participate in the NLC peaceful Mass Protest and Rally to protest government’s insensitivity towards alleviating the sufferings of Nigerians occasioned by the increase in the pump price of fuel.

Following a directive from the NLC,which was signed by its two principal officers,comrade Uche Igwe- Onu,National Treasurer,and comrade Felix S. Akongnoye, Secretary General, to all its affiliates nation wide to mobilize, and sensitize members for the peaceful Mass Protest scheduled to kick start on Wednesday,2nd August,2023, the MWUN through a Circular No.MWUN/HQ/IM/7.23,dated 31,July,2023,and signed by Comrade Erazua Oniha,issued a notice to all its members to mobilize in readiness for the protest.

The Circular states,”I bring you fraternal greetings from the Central Working Committee (CWC) of our union – Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria (MWUN).

“We are in notice of the decision of meeting of the Central Working Committee (CWC) of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) which held on Thursday, 27th July 2023 directing ALL NLC Affiliates to mobilize and sensitize their members preparatory for a nationwide peaceful MASS PROTEST AND RALLY scheduled to kick start Wednesday 2nd August, 2023.”

The circular added that ,”This decision was reached in the face of the Federal Government’s seeming insensitivity to the need to urgently put the necessary instruments in place to cushion the escalating cost of living to which the Nigerian working class and citizens are daily subjected, without any respite in sight due to removal of subsidy from price of Petroleum Motor Spirit (PMS or Petrol).

“Consequent to the foregoing, all NAC, CWC, NEC and our members in all ports, jetties, terminals and Oil and Gas Platforms nationwide, most especially, All Districts And Units are by this notice Directed to commence immediate and total mobilization of our members to effectively ensure their participation in the nationwide peaceful Mass Protest And Rally from Wednesday, 2nd August, 2023 as directed.”
